What is a Grant?

Answer:
Grants are funds awarded to a person or corporation, wherein the money is used to finance a multitude of activities.
Since the Federal government and many private organizations sponsor or fund the grant, the recipient does not have to payback the money.

There are many different types of grants. Undergraduate and graduate students may receive an educational grant, which is more advantageous than a student loan because there is no repayment of the funds. Furthermore, grant money can aid public housing organizations, non-profit organizations, government organizations, small businesses, and individuals.

Grant applications feature strict guidelines, and applicants must meet all requirements to be eligible for a specific grant program. Unfortunately, receiving a grant approval is difficult. Individuals and organizations who seek a grant to fund a project or business must complete a detailed grant proposal. The proposal provides a broad outline of the applicant's project, and should discuss a statement of need, accomplish method, timeline, budget, etc. Grant applicants should systematically explain their project goal since grantors use the proposal to determine grant eligibility. Once an individual or business receives a grant approval, they are rewarded the funds, and the grant money must be used for the purpose outlined in the proposal.
